Program Goals and Objectives
Students pursuing a minor in the Ethics of AI in Design acquire familiarity with core concepts related to AI, ethics, and design, as well as the ability to integrate these concepts through applied work.
Program Distribution Requirements
Students are required to take 2 units for the minor. 2/3 of these units is an AI literacy and critical thinking requirement. 2/3 is a design requirement, introducing common methods for design of interactive experiences and providing applied work in experience design. The remaining 2/3 unit offers integrative electives: each course offering for this requirement both a) critically engages with human experiences and b) covers material related to the intersection of at least two of the following areas: design, ethics, and applied AI.
At least 1/3 unit of the integrative electives must be taken at the 3000-level of higher as a minor capstone experience.
The minor advisor has discretion to count 1/3 unit of IQP, MQP, independent study, or coursework outside of the approved integrative electives list as part of the integrative electives requirement, in accordance with university policies regarding double-counting of IQP and MQP credit into a minor. Such counting of project or coursework outside of the approved course list is allowable only if the coursework or project work meaningfully integrates applied AI, ethics, and design.
